A spot of inspiration

Travel is a stimulating source of travel and a trip to Skopelos included a visit to a glorious, peaceful spot, that inspired this painting, which I worked in acrylics on board.

The light was intense, with sparkling silver spots on the waves on the turquoise and cobalt sea far below, while the coniferous tree provided shade and movement in the light late morning breeze.  It was a glorious location which I did not want to leave, so that painting it was a great pleasure in revisiting this idyll.

The glorious oasis that is the Jardins Majorelle in Marrakech, Morocco is another extremely inspirational place, with lots of the stunning Majorelle Blue (a mix of Cobalt and Ultramarine blue) acting as a foil to painted planters in bright and contrasting colours.  The strong light again causes powerful contrasts and again I chose to represent this by using very fine lines of colour on a background  closer to the base shade of the plants.
